http://extremesailingseries.com For four days, China's Olympic sailing city welcomed the 12-boat elite level fleet, for the Land Rover Extreme Sailing Series, Act 3 Qingdao. The racetrack here has a certain notoriety and over 32 races, it certainly lived up to its reputation with plenty of close calls, scraps and three collisions, that meant a busy pitlane for the shore teams - including one of the biggest crashes in the history of the Series that wiped Alinghi out of the final races - but not off the top spot, and the Swiss team went on to take victory on Chinese waters. To follow updates or assist with "Project Ppalu" please visit http://www.Ppalu.com In early 2013, a true Caribbean character, D Randy West, known fondly as the 'Commodore' of the Caribbean finally realized a 30 year old dream... to own what is now a classic sailing yacht which he helped launch in 1977. He and 200 other people all gathered to physically lift by hand the brand new 75' sailing catamaran 'Ppalu' into the water from the beach where she was built in St Martin, Caribbean. She immediately became the fastest and most well known sailing yacht in the world, and also the biggest sailing catamaran at the time. Able to achieve speeds in excess of 25knots, Ppalu's pedigree was true from the start, and she turned heads everywhere she went and bore the covers of many a magazine. Tragically she had been very much neglected in her life as a day-charter boat in the British Virgin Islands over the past 20+ years, and was in dire need of tender love and care when Randy assumed command. He initiated "Project Ppalu" and immediately set to work on rebuilding her piece by piece over the course of the entire year. All the efforts were rewarded when she was finally re-launched in December 2013 and he and Joanne started out on their voyage of a lifetime. Unfortunately, 3 months into their sailing, tragedy struck and 'Ppalu' was holed on a reef in St Martin and promptly sank. The video outlines the subsequent salvage operation and shows clearly what is now needed to re-restore this classic sailing vessel and let her heritage live on for future generations to see. Randy and Joanne have done what they can to preserve her, but have now exhausted their resources and won't be able to complete this project on their own. They need our help, and this is a very worthy cause for very worthy people that are simply at the wrong end of a bad accident that has crippled their home. For any of us this would be a major undertaking on our own, physically and financially... but if all of us in the sailing community or otherwise can help out with just a little bit each, the legacy of 'Ppalu' can be restored and Randy & Joanne's dream can carry on. The first video in my series of my 10 month adventure sailing across the Pacific Ocean in 2013. This first video may be a little boring to some, as it only covers some of the pre-departure work we had to do on the boat. There was actually much more that needed to be done, but the projects in this video were the only ones that I filmed. A large portion of your time as a cruiser is spent working on the boat. Most sailors say they spend more time working on their boat than actually sailing it. This first video shows, in a humorous way, some of the tedious tasks that a boat owner or crewperson has to go through day to day and how a "five minute job" can take up a whole day. Youtube made the vid/sound out of sync hence blank spells where it catches up and some stills missed. Disappointing upload as video quality also reduced. Weathers hurricane Sandy in Cape May which was not part of the holiday plan! Errors in the audio - I keep saying the Petuxant River by Elizabeth City and it is the Pasquatank River. And it is the Pungo River not the Pungwe River (which is in Zimbabwe!). And I apologise for my pronounciation which I'm sure is all wrong. Excellent adventure - thank you America.

Dolphins!!! The second video in my series of my 10 month adventure sailing across the Pacific Ocean in 2013. This video covers the process of leaving the dock in a busy marina and highlights some of the dangers and things you need to keep a lookout for as we depart through the Intracoastal Waterway. It wasn't long out of Ft. Lauderdale that we had our first encounter with dolphins. The video ends with a serene view of dolphins swimming and playing alongside the boat.
